Cigar Reveal #183

RoMa Craft
Intemperance Whiskey Rebellion 1794

The Whiskey Rebellion, which lasted from 1791 to 1794 and was the result of the United States government taxing distilled spirits to create revenue for the payment of debt incurred during the Revolutionary War. It also marked the first time a domestic product had been subject to a tax. It came to an end when President George Washington rode to Pennsylvania to quell the insurrection.

Skip Martin, co-owner of RoMa Craft, said, "What the Whiskey Rebellion of 1794 represents, for me, is two things. First, that we must resist tyrannous taxes and regulations, and second that this resistance is not futile."

So on that note, fight the power and smoke well!

Once fired up, the Intemperance WR serves up flavors of cedar and earth up front, with herb and black pepper as secondary notes. One thing that’s important to note on the Intemperance lines is the slightly shaggy foot, which means that for the first few minutes you are smoking only filler and binder, without any wrapper burning. Once the wrapper caught fire, I got more earth and less cedar, along with a definite cocoa powder note and a slight increase in pepper. Whiskey Rebellion is a very fine addition to the Intemperance range, giving the line a full-bodied option, while the Arapiraca was always medium-to-full. It wasn’t the most complex blend in the RoMa Craft lineup, but it did deliver a good solid Nicaraguan flavor the entire way with just enough extra touches to provide interest. Rating: 9/10

Kohnhed

The RoMa Craft Tobac Intemperance Whiskey Rebellion 1794 is a cigar blend with an adult portion of huge gratification. With 1-1/2” to go, the blend is smooth and uber flavorful. Complex and awash with delicious, bold, taste bud sophistication. How Skip Martin was able to produce a blend of this magnitude for such a low price point is beyond me. The spiciness returns with a colossal vengeance. My eyes are watering. By now, I’m sure you’ve gotten the gist of this review. The RoMa Craft Tobac Intemperance Whiskey Rebellion 1794 is a winner on all fronts. Do not hesitate. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200. Score some. Rating: 95

Stogie Guys

The background sweetness has a character of warm natural tobacco. The texture is leathery and, at times, I can pick up a cherry sweetness. Across the three samples I smoked for this review, two had occasional burn issues that were easily corrected with a few torch touch-ups.
