Cigar Reveal #249

Casa 1910
Teniente Angela

"Ángela Jiménez, known as “Teniente Angela” (Lieutenant Ángela) was a soldier, spy, explosives expert, flag bearer and sometimes a cook. Originally from Oaxaca, México, she fought in the Revolution with Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata’s guerrillas in the North and Center of the country. She never let her gender define her strength, which is why her fearlessness was so remarkable and inspiring.

In this tobacco, you will find a rich combination of flavors and aromas ranging from wood, cocoa seeds, nuts, earth and black pepper. The ideal pairing for this cigar is Stout beer."

Reviews + Notes

Smokin Tabacco

The Teniente Angela opened up with such beautiful complexity and in itself had so many transitions that worked well with each other and offered a very nice smoking experience. Unfortunately, the profile did not hold up and became quite muddled, bitter, and linear as it progressed. I have smoked a few other Casa 1910 cigars and have found a similar trend with most of the cigars, although this was the best one so far. In terms of the score the first third was such a wonderful experience it really saved it from becoming too low. Construction wise each sample had a good draw with one being a tiny bit tight. Both had relatively good burns but one sample required a relight and touchup during the final third.

Cigar Obsession

This 6×52 stick features a slight red hued dark brown wrapper with a dense firm pack, slightly oily very finely toothed feel, large triple cap and faint sweet soapy hay aroma. First light reveals a flawless draw with thick, smooth sweet, almost grassy earthy notes, with a smooth retro and long finish. The first third is a medium-full body of creamy, sweet, silky smooth notes of a bright nuttiness, light earth, sweetness and a building pepper and slight spice through the long finish. Construction is simply flawless. The 1/2 way point comes at 45 minutes with flavors unchanged, perfect performance and solid ash drops. The last third showed no transitions but remained complex, smooth and full through the long finish, ending at the nub at 1:15.

Developing Palates

I need to smoke the original Casa 1910 again, but this Casa 1910 Soldadera Edition Teniente Angela is the best Casa 1910 I have smoked since that cigar. This might actually be the best cigar they have released. Balanced with tons of flavors. You can get all the tobacco nations in the blend. There is depth and complexity. Beautiful construction. Not an attractive cigar, but one that smokes well. I think this would be popular with a large selection of smokers.
