Cigar Reveal #263

RoMa Craft
Intemperance BA XXI

Last time we sent FIVE RoMa cigars to your front door. This month we figured, eh, why not just go ahead and finish with the full lineup? So we added the Intemperance BA!

RoMa Craft launched in 2011, initially introducing the CroMagnon cigar. Later that same year, they announced two more upcoming lines: Intemperance and Aquitaine. In 2012, Intemperance became the first official release under the RoMa Craft Tobac brand, available in two versions: the EC, featuring an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, and the BA, with a Brazilian Arapiraca wrapper. The Intemperance line draws its name from the historical movement aimed at exposing the dangers of alcohol, which eventually led to Prohibition.

Halfwheel

I have really liked the smaller ring gauge BA XXIs, particularly The Revenge followed closely by the Vanity. That being said, the Revenge works, a lot better than the Breach of Peace. The nutty core that I’ve often found in the line is on display here, particularly in the first half, but there’s a completely different end to the Revenge. Box-pressing a cigar almost always results in a change, the results aren’t always this drastic and not always the good.

Cigar Coop

When it comes to the Brazilian Arapiraca wrapper, I am a pretty big critic of blends with this wrapper.  Like San Andres wrappers,  I find that this is a wrapper that can tend to overwhelm a blend very easily.  With the RoMa Craft Tobac Intemperance BA XXI line, this is not the case as it delivers a great flavor experience – and the Revenge falls in line with this..  Like when I smoked the CroMagnon Blockhead, I was really surprised the changes box-pressing a cigar could do.  While the rounded 5 x 56 Breach of the Peace was a very good cigar, the Revenge is an even better one.  This is a cigar I’d recommend to an experienced cigar enthusiast or a new cigar enthusiast looking for something a little fuller, but not too full.  As for myself, this has all of the makings of being the standout cigar in the Intemperance line – the “Belle of the Ball”.  It’s definitely a box worthy cigar.

Fine Tobacco NYC

As Halfwheel rightly noted in their review of the Intemperance BA XXI, this cigar relies less on blasts of power and more on finesse. I’ve got to hand it to Skip Martin and the team at RoMa Craft Tobac. They really have proven in this cigar, and in the CroMagnon, that they are capable of blending truly unique and skillful product.
