Cigar Reveal #340

Partagas
Y Nada Mas

The Partagás Y Nada Más is a modern expression of the historic Partagás brand, one of the oldest names in cigars, dating back to 1845 in Havana, Cuba. While the original Partagás was founded in Cuba, the Y Nada Más line specifically celebrates the brand's long history in the Dominican Republic, where the non-Cuban version of Partagás has been produced since the late 1970s.

The name "Y Nada Más" translates to "And Nothing More." It reflects the idea that a great cigar should stand on the quality of its tobacco and craftsmanship alone. The blend was designed to showcase what makes a Partagás cigar distinctive without unnecessary embellishment. Brand representatives have described it as a statement that there is "Partagás, and nothing else." The line was created to blend traditional Partagás character with a profile aimed at modern cigar smokers while maintaining the brand's historic identity.

Halfwheel

Even with some variance in the draw and smoking time, the Partagas Y Nada Más Santiago Robusto performed pretty consistently with its easy-to-enjoy flavor profile. The first and second thirds are where the cigar shines brightest, starting lively and developing before backing off a few steps to present a mellower experience in the second third. Where the cigar falls short is getting back to that livelier profile in the final third. It does so for a bit, really ramping up the complexity for a few puffs before the delicate balance starts to come undone, and as the flavors and intensity just can’t stay together to produce the kind of finish this cigar seemed to merit. That said, there is still a lot to like here, and my overall impression of the Partagas y Nada Más Santiago remains quite good. I’d certainly prefer a bit more consistency in the draws and air flow of the cigars, but even that wasn’t a huge detractor. I’d easily recommend giving this cigar a try next time you’re wanting something new to smoke.

Developing Palates

The cigar began with decently toasted cedar, earth and some crushed red pepper. Some mustiness joined in fairly quickly. Later, the crushed red pepper began morphing into black pepper. The second third saw the black pepper take over the crushed red pepper. Some creamy leather joined in fairly quickly and the pepper mellowed slightly. Later, the earth became even with the toasted cedar up front. The final third saw the toast level become pretty heavy and then led into a light char with some wood bitterness joining in. The construction was absolutely perfect. The Partagas Y Nada Mas Robusto had a pretty nice start as the crushed red pepper provided a nice accent along with the mustiness. The second third took a step down as the black pepper replaced the crushed red pepper and continued at that level the rest of the way. I was hoping for more of the first third throughout, but that didn’t materialize. This is a well priced cigar, which makes it an easy try. I might come back to it again to see if I can chase that first third, but it’s not high on my to do list.
