IN MY TWENTIES,

weddings were my favorite way to spend a weekend. The ceremony, the dinner, the open bar, the dancing, and the farewell sparklers… What more could you ask for? It was about the most fun time you could have on a Saturday night.

But a hundred weddings and ten years later, I was pretty over them. All the parts of weddings that I loved - the ceremony, the dinner, the open bar, the dancing, the farewell sparklers - had grown pretty stale.

I was beginning to dread finding wedding invitations in the mail. We needed something new, something unique to stand out from the standard routines of weddings.

It wasn’t until a friend's wedding that I discovered how welcome the addition of cigars to a wedding reception would be.

See, I had worked in cigars for years - even had my own cigar company. So when I attended the wedding of one of my cigar-loving friends, I gifted him a full humidor of 100 cigars. I even labeled each cigar with custom wedding bands that I designed.

My expectations were low: A few people would grab a cigar and he would take the rest home. But that’s not what happened.

It started with a couple guys taking cigars to the outside veranda. Their partners joined them. More guests joined. Soon the veranda was full of people. Inside there was dancing, outside there were conversations and laughter and cigar smoke lifting amongst the party lights and the warm sky beyond it. Even the bride and groom came outside and shared a cigar.

Not only were the cigars a success, many guests said it made their night.

I wondered if it was just a one-off occurrence, so I provided cigars for the next wedding I attended. And then again. Each time, they were a hit!

That’s when I added events to the Standard + Twain list of cigar services. Since then, we’ve been honored to play a small role in dozens of wedding celebrations. And we haven’t stopped at simply offering cigars.

As a 3rd generation cigar roller, he still has memories as a child sitting at the feet of his grandfather while he rolled cigars with the same techniques he learned while crafting cigars in the Dominican Republic. During the 2+ hour cigar rolling, Tim will:

  • Answer questions and explain the cigar rolling process to guests, and even let them take a shot at it!
