Description |
What do we need to say about this cigar? You already know it, and if you don't, you're welcome. The Padron 1964 Anniversary Maduro is one of the most celebrated cigars in the world made by one of the most celebrated cigar brands in the world. It's the cigar wealthy cigar smokers keep stocked in their humidor at all times, and normal people buy for special occasions, not unlike dinner at Morton's. And several sizes have been featured on the top 25 Cigars of the Year, including this size, the Exclusivo... twice, ranking at #3 in 2005 and #5 in 2011. There are many cigars that are all branding and solid marketing and maybe some payments on the side for the all-important top 25 cigar ranking. Fortunately for us, even in a blind tasting this lives up to every accolade it's ever received. |

The Padrón family continues to impress the cigar world with their complex, flavorful and eminently balanced cigars. Family patriarch José Orlando Padrón began making cigars under his name in 1964. His original efforts were made solely for his fellow Cubans living in Miami. His son Jorge began expanding the company's sales to new markets, and the 1994 introduction of the Padrón 1964 Anniversary Series took the brand to new heights, making them a must-have in the humidors of top cigar shops. The Exclusivo size is a bit thinner than the typical corona gorda, and longer than the typical robusto. The smokes are packed with Nicaraguan tobaccos from Jalapa, Condega and Estelí, all of it grown in the open sunlight. Then they are sharply pressed in a distinctive style. In maduro wrapper, the cigar is dark, with that trademark rich Padrón cocoa flavor. The Padróns have never failed to have a cigar in Cigar Aficionado's top five, and have won Cigar of the Year on several occasions. |

Review #2 Content | My one suggestion would be to wait under after dinner or a large meal (think Thanksgiving folks). I had forgotten how much strength this stick can carry. None the less, I will give the Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Exclusivo Maduro a rating of 4 – Box Worthy. Keep a box on hand for those occasions where you want an extremely well constructed and balanced cigar. The purchase will provide you with many enjoyable moments for months and years to come. |
