Cigar Reveal #275

Crowned Heads
Jericho Hill OBS

Jericho Hill marked a significant milestone as the first Crowned Heads cigar crafted by the renowned My Father cigar factory. The inspiration for this blend came from co-founder Jon Huber’s deep connection to Johnny Cash, whose six-foot-tall metal print hangs near Huber’s desk as a daily reminder of the artist's influence.

“Cash has always inspired me—not just musically, but in what he represented as a man,” Huber explained. “He was a rebel with integrity and authenticity. I didn’t want to create a literal ‘Man in Black’ cigar, but I found inspiration in the layers of ‘Cocaine Blues.’ Hidden in that song was the name ‘Jericho Hill,’ and it resonated deeply with me.”

“Cocaine Blues” tells the haunting story of Willy Lee, a man who spirals into violence under the influence of whiskey and cocaine, ultimately killing a woman. His journey ends in Juarez, Mexico, where an unnamed sheriff from the town of Jericho Hill captures him. This dark, evocative narrative inspired the name and spirit behind the Jericho Hill cigar.

Early one mornin’ while makin’ the rounds

I took a shot of cocaine and shot my woman down

I went right home and I went to bed

I stuck that lovin’ forty-four beneath my head.

Got up next mornin’ and I grabbed that gun

Took a shot of cocaine and away I run

Made a good run but I run too slow

They overtook me down in Juarez Mexico

Laid in the hot joint takin’ the pill

In walked a sheriff from Jericho Hill

He said Willy Lee your name is not Jack Brown

You’re the dirty hack that shot your woman down.

This thing puts out a ton of thick white smoke, I love that. Though, considering its spicy strength, I eventually realized I probably should've eaten dinner first! I'd say if you're wanting to try anything similar to my experience... Do it on a full stomach! Medium to full bodied, full flavor & wonderful construction make this cigar an absolute dream to smoke. Take your time & enjoy every last puff & savor the flavor. I would only hesitate to smoke this if you're a novice who prefers Macanudo & Budlight.

From the end of the first third through the end of the cigar, the best comparison I could make to something else you may have tried was to a Padron 1964 Maduro. The smokes share many basic flavor profile similarities due to the use of Mexican wrapper; with the Jericho Hill coming in at about 2/3 the price of the Padron, though, this cigar is eminently more accessible for most smokers. I found this to be on the low end of full-bodied and it had just a bit of a nicotine kick. After smoking the OBV and the 44S, I found the balance on the OBV to be more to my liking, but in the end, this is my favorite Crowned Head product since Four Kicks.

This cigar is for the very experienced palate. I am getting flavors and nuances I don’t recognize. For as many cigars I’ve smoked and reviewed, this doesn’t happen that often … If the Jericho Hill flavor profile was a boiling pot, it would be overflowing and spilling everywhere. What a magnificent cigar.
