Cigar Reveal #297

Warped
Futuro Selección

The Futuro line came out of a unique partnership between two next-generation cigar makers: Kyle Gellis of Warped and Max Fernández, son of Eduardo Fernández, the founder of Aganorsa Leaf. Both men shared a vision for honoring traditional Cuban-style cigars while innovating with modern Nicaraguan terroir. Released in 2015, Futuro was meant to represent “the future” of cigar blending—hence its name. It was crafted entirely from Aganorsa’s vintage tobacco stocks, some of which had been aged and preserved in their private reserves. The Suprema vitola (a slender corona gorda) was chosen to emphasize complexity and restraint over power. This cigar was also a symbolic gesture—two young voices working with legacy materials, carrying tradition forward rather than merely replicating it. With Futuro, Warped sought to blend heritage and innovation, a constant tension in boutique cigar making.

Cigar Dojo

It may not be quite as exquisite and rare as other Warped releases such as the Don Reynaldo, but to me it is equally enjoyable for what it is. A fantastic cigar. Warped Cigars have accomplished what only a handful of brands have. They have a full lineup of diverse cigars, every one deserving a smoke and a spot in anyone’s humidor for their own right. The Futuro is no exception. A blend created by two masterminds of tobacco, with unwarranted access to the esteemed Vault of Casa Fernandez; it’s no question why this is one impressive cigar, well worth the addition to Warped’s regular releases.

The Futuro Selección 109 by Warped Cigars & Casa Fernández is about as close to a perfect cigar as possible. That’s my palate speaking. I could smoke this cigar all day long and never tire of it. Clearly, I highly recommend this cigar. If you’ve got the dough, snag a box. If you can, at least buy a 5 pack. I received two cigars. I didn’t smoke the first one before this review. I’m very glad I didn’t. Now I have another to smoke when I feel the time is right.

Leaf Enthusiast

The cigar starts off with a medium spice on the tongue and retrohale, with flavors of leather, wood, and nuts with a sweet finish.  The spice did die down after I got an inch in.  The cigar is firmly medium strength to start.  The second third saw the sweet finish intensify with the spice almost going completely away.  The flavors were very leathery and nutty with hints of green herbs thrown in.  The cigar didn’t gain or lose any strength.  The final third didn’t see much change in flavors, but the spice did start to come back slightly.  It intensified a bit but never got out of the upper end of medium. I definitely enjoyed this cigar.  It probably would be something that most smokers could enjoy.  I think it would be a very good morning or first cigar of the day for me, and will be picking up some so I can do that.
