Cigar Reveal #308

Aganorsa Leaf
Aniversario Corojo Lancero

Aganorsa Leaf’s story begins in the late 1990s, when Eduardo Fernández moved to Nicaragua with a vision to cultivate tobacco that married Cuban tradition with Nicaraguan terroir. Over time, Aganorsa (Agrícola Ganadera Norteña S.A.) evolved into a vertically integrated enterprise controlling seed selection, farming, fermentation, and cigar production. The premium cigar arm was once marketed under the “Casa Fernández” name, but around 2018 the branding was aligned under Aganorsa Leaf to reflect the company’s identity as both grower and blender. The Aniversario line began as a celebratory series (initially under Casa Fernández) to honor milestones in the company’s history, using only Aganorsa-grown tobaccos. In late 2021, the Aniversario Corojo line was rebranded to Aganorsa Leaf Aniversario Corojo, though the blend remained unchanged, keeping the same Nicaraguan Corojo wrapper and Aganorsa cellared tobaccos in the filler and binder.

Triple Cap

The Aganorsa Leaf Aniversario Corojo is an exceptionally tasty Lancero. A delicious sugarcane flavor complements its strong backbone of hay, graham crackers, and baking spices. The ash never stuck on for too long, but the construction and burn were fabulous. The Aniversario Corojo is a much lighter and sweeter blend than most Nicaraguan puros, but it’s packing plenty of flavor. At $14, these are right in the sweet spot, and I’d happily pay the price of admission. If you’re a fan of nuanced, sweet, and nutty profiles or love a good lancero, you’ll have a blast with the Aniversario Corojo.

Leaf Enthusiast

As I went through the first third, more flavor of toasted wood came through on the palate, pushing the popcorn and dark fruit notes down in the mix, while leaving ample earth and coffee.

The second third had the toasted wood notes coming on even stronger with a solid earthiness underneath. The buttered popcorn note from the Corojo leaf was still hanging on slightly and every now and then I would get some dark fruit sweetness mixed with coffee.

I got more earth and coffee coming through on the last third, along with a resurgence of sweetness in the form of dark chocolate and more pepper on the last third. Toasted wood was still strong in the mix, too.

"This was an enjoyable cigar that took me on a flavor journey. I enjoyed the fact this cigar eased me into its final medium strength profile and kept me interested in its ever changing flavor profile. I would gladly smoke this again and would love to pair it with a dessert and coffee…I think that would hit the spot just fine!"
