Cigar Reveal #357

ADVentura
Blue Eyed Jack's Revenge

The Blue Eyed Jack's Revenge arrived in 2024 as the latest chapter in the peculiar, pirate-filled universe created by ADVentura founders Henderson Ventura and Marcel Knobel. The company, founded in 2016, has built much of its identity around maritime exploration, with each cigar representing another character or episode in an ongoing adventure. Blue Eyed Jack's Revenge follows the 2022 release of Barbarroja's Invasion, introducing a rival pirate plotting revenge against the notorious Barbarroja. The storytelling extends all the way to the packaging. Open a box and a recording of Jack's voice announces, "Small price to pay for the taste of sweet revenge." It is an unusual amount of theater for a box of cigars, but ADVentura has never been particularly interested in conventional packaging.

Behind the pirate story is a more interesting tobacco project. Ventura wanted to demonstrate the range of Dominican tobacco, pairing a Mexican San Andrés Colorado wrapper with Dominican Olor binder and Dominican fillers. All the tobaccos are aged for five years before rolling, followed by another six months of rest for the finished cigars. The blend was developed to offer a sweeter, more restrained counterpart to Barbarroja's Invasion, with Ventura particularly interested in producing sweetness both on the palate and through the retrohale. Production takes place at Tabacalera Mina del Rey in the Dominican Republic, a factory established following the devastating 2022 fire at Tabacalera William Ventura. The cigar became ADVentura's fastest-selling release at the time, an encouraging result for a company that had spent the preceding years rebuilding.

Simply Stogies

While I enjoyed the foundation of cream that this cigar had to offer, I found myself wanting a little more from it and that just might be the mood that I am in lately. This cigar had more cream than some Connecticuts that I’ve smoked, and it had just enough differentiation in each third to keep me interested. You will have to wait until the last third to get some kind of sweetness out of the cigar and I’m happy that it actually appeared, but I think that if it came through earlier, I would like this cigar much more.  The Blue Eyed Jacks’ Revenge was dominated by a very plain cream and edges between being a one dimensional stick and a nice easy going cigar for anyone to enjoy.

Halfwheel

I've consistently been impressed by the cigars in the ADVentura portfolio and the Blue Eyed Jack's Revenge Robusto continues that streak. The blend produces a well-executed profile that draws on earth, creaminess, pepper, a bit of sweetness and some supporting notes that also change the mouthfeel of the smoke. If there's anything I could take issue with when it comes to the profile, the chalk and mineral in the first puffs isn't the best start, and the final third can get a bit too dry. But beyond that, there's not much I'd change. I certainly enjoyed all three cigars, and while I didn't find that singularmoment that put the blend into the upper echelon of profiles, the totality of what the blend has to offer produces a solid experience that continues to show that the ADVentura brand is putting out some very good smokes.
