The Honduran El Rey del Mundo Oscuro traces its roots to the brand’s post-revolution rebirth in Central America and is produced at the famed HATSA factory in Danlí, Honduras—originally founded by the Villazones and later integrated into General Cigar, with distribution now under Forged Cigar Company since 2021. This line has been a Honduran staple for over three decades, built around a rich Connecticut Broadleaf Oscuro wrapper with Honduran binder and filler tobaccos, offering a medium‑to‑full-bodied smoke at an accessible price point.
Leaf Enthusiast:
I have a vague recollection of smoking an El Rey del Mundo 15 or more years ago and enjoying it. Turns out I still do. It was a very good bargain-priced cigar with a medium-to-full body and more complexity than a lot of cigars in this price range. It’s good to see them hitting a wide distribution channel. If you like General’s Punch Maduros, you may very well enjoy these as they share some profile notes…not surprising since I believe they’re made in the same factory. Definitely worth a 5-pack to have for those times when a less expensive cigar is in order, but you still want something with plenty of flavor. Score: 9/10
