The My Father Cedros Deluxe belongs to the original My Father collection, introduced in 2008 by Jaime Garcia as a tribute to his father, José "Don Pepín" Garcia. The elder Garcia had spent decades making cigars in Cuba before emigrating to the United States, where he established a small factory in Miami's Little Havana neighborhood. His reputation for blending strong, peppery cigars eventually led the family to Nicaragua, where they built one of the country's most respected cigar-making operations. Jaime's original My Father blend combined an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper with Nicaraguan tobaccos, bringing together the family's Cuban cigar-making traditions and the distinctive character of Nicaragua's growing regions.
The Cedros Deluxe is a cedar-wrapped presentation of that original blend, offered in two comparatively slender sizes: the Eminentes and Cervantes. Each cigar is enclosed in a thin sheet of Spanish cedar, a traditional packaging method used for decades in the cigar industry. The cedar helps protect the wrapper and can contribute a subtle woody aroma during storage. What makes the Cedros Deluxe interesting is its restraint in an industry increasingly preoccupied with enormous ring gauges. The Cervantes, measuring just 44 ring gauge, gives the Ecuadorian wrapper a greater proportion of the blend than it would have in a much thicker cigar. The result is a somewhat different expression of the original My Father recipe, without requiring an entirely new blend.
